World Labs is joining AMD

Fei-Fei Li recounts her career from early work on ImageNet to founding World Labs in early 2024 with co-founders Ben Mildenhall and Justin Johnson to build a frontier lab focused on spatial intelligence. World Labs assembled a team across data, vision, large-model training, systems and graphics, acquired SceniX for robotics simulation, and developed Atlas, an omni-model that predicts new camera views. Atlas combines generative models with multiview geometry to effectively solve sparse reconstruction, outperforming specialized models and enabling applications from robotics RL environments and scene generation for therapy and entertainment to real-world reconstruction for real estate, design and construction.

To scale those capabilities and close the gap between digital models and physical-world impact, World Labs is joining AMD. Having partnered on model training and inference optimization on AMD GPUs, and with AMD CEO Lisa Su an early investor, the move integrates hardware and software across an end-to-end AI stack. Fei-Fei will join AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist to lead a durable frontier research organization, committed to open models and platforms that accelerate applications in drug discovery, creativity, learning, robotics and other societally important domains.
