Show HN: I checked 1M free proxies – 1 in 5 working ones injected scripts

Tool that scans and verifies public HTTP, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 proxies from 700+ lists, removes dead entries and catches malicious or tampering proxies. It argues free proxy lists are mostly useless - often ~95% dead - and shows specific harm: in measurements one in five working proxies injected a script into a plain HTML page. To avoid false positives and honeypots, every candidate undergoes a real handshake, parallel checks (the code runs thousands of checks concurrently and parses lists on all CPU cores), two independent page fetches and a third tamper-detection request; HTTPS is verified end-to-end and anonymity level and exit country are reported. The scanner learns over time which sources are productive and prunes stale lists.

Practical features include an interactive setup wizard, a rotating proxy server, and an MCP server so AI agents (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, etc.) can request working proxies or fetch pages through them. Results are published hourly via GitHub Actions as a browsable live list (searchable by protocol, country, HTTPS, elite, latency) and can be rechecked from your network in ~30s. Install options include pipx, Docker or pip; outputs include plain lists, JSON/CSV and a served rotating proxy. Example run: rechecking a live download returned 517 working of 1,169 candidates.
