Meta bans another Toronto performer from Instagram and Facebook over Bikini

Performer-producer Starlotte Satine had three social-media accounts - a performance Instagram, a vintage-clothing business Instagram, and a personal Facebook - abruptly deleted by Meta after a February photo showing Satine and two other dancers in bikinis (shot from behind) was flagged as “co‑ordinating harm.” The removals, which Meta said violated its terms, also briefly hit the bar promoted in the post and other tagged performers; some accounts were later reinstated while a separate Instagram for Satine’s deceased cat was also suspended. Meta did not respond to requests for comment. Satine says she relies on social platforms for promotion and sales, and that the sudden bans have left her “devastated” and at risk of losing a large portion of income from a $16,000 emo‑themed show she is producing at the El Mocambo.

The timing is consequential: the Oct. 2 concert-retro burlesque production, with a 350‑person capacity, a nine‑piece band including Sum 41’s bassist, and high-profile drag and burlesque acts, depends on social ads (Satine paid roughly $300 for targeted ads) and organic reach to sell tickets. The case echoes recent takedowns affecting other Toronto queer performance groups accused by Meta of “human exploitation” or similar policy breaches, highlighting recurring disputes over opaque enforcement of content rules and the financial vulnerability of live performers who depend on platforms to reach audiences.
