Barndoor acquires Diaphora, creators of open-source workflow runtime Frags

Barndoor acquired Diaphora to combine Diaphora’s Frags workflow engine and Frags Modeling Language (FML) with Barndoor’s AI gateway and governance controls, bringing repeatable, governed AI automations - called Blueprints - into enterprise workflows. Diaphora began as an independent project and now spins into Barndoor with its team joining. Frags defines and constrains where LLMs can act so workflows execute predictably: if a required step cannot complete, the Blueprint halts and flags the issue rather than inventing a plausible result. The integration addresses three enterprise adoption barriers - reliability, access, and distribution - by making AI actions deterministic where needed, enforcing role-based access to tools and data via Barndoor’s MCP gateway, and enabling centralized distribution without per-automation provisioning.

Blueprints connect tools and data through defined steps so AI handles judgment tasks while routine steps run consistently; examples include completing post-call sales tasks or assembling customer health reviews that pull data across multiple systems while carrying the appropriate permissions. Blueprints inherit Barndoor’s audit trails, access controls, and cost visibility, reducing nondeterminism, preventing unauthorized data access or PII leaks, and making automations safe to scale. Frags and FML remain open source under Barndoor stewardship, letting teams extend or verify workflows while enterprises gain a governed path from AI pilots to production.
